The previous few years across Walt Disney World property had seen a great deal of activity from new resorts in Disney’s Riviera and Disney’s Progress City Resort, to a complete retheme of Saratoga Resort & Spa to the Black Forest Resort & Spa and all manner of updates in between. With no new openings on the horizon, the 50th anniversary puts its focus on enhancements to many existing resorts, bringing new food and drink options at several, along with rebranding and refreshing a few longtime favorites.
Reopening just before the official 50th, Disney's Polynesian Resort will see its largest update in years. A complete reworking of the resort entry and its iconic porte-cochere will enhance the guest experience from the moment they arrive on property. The grandest update though will be to the resorts non-DVC rooms as they go through a complete refresh and retheme. Still keeping the Polynesian flair, the rooms and long houses will have a vibrant new look with new furniture and fixtures taking inspiration from the hit film Moana to complete the experience.
Other Resorts: All resorts see the return of resort merchandise and the deluxe resorts get more subtle resort branding on napkins and the like. All resorts also get a small building somewhere on the grounds that serves as a character meet and greet spot. The characters match the resort in theme or vibe and rotate randomly. Hours are typically while guests are in parks. There are also two PhotoPass photographers that hang around icons that people would want to take pictures with and in the lobby. Towel animals see more of an appearance as well. Also, each resort gets food branded with the resort name, mainly burgers and sweets.
