Our guiding principles

The WMP draws on the resources of the school community to provide fundraising and support for our partners in Malawi on a sustainable and mutually beneficial basis.

The overall purpose of WMP is to relieve and prevent poverty amongst young people in Malawi and their communities through efforts both in Scotland and Malawi, to achieve specifically:

  • The advancement of education for young people and teachers in relation to the global issues identified in the Sustainable Development Goals

  • The advancement of health and wellbeing for all

  • The advancement of public participation in sport

  • The advancement of environmental protection and improvement in relation to our activities

  • The alleviation of poverty or hardship in extreme circumstances

The initiatives we support enable pupils to demonstrate their commitment to the partnership and witness for themselves the positive difference they can bring.

We choose initiatives that conform to strict criteria:

  • Support George Watson’s College’s international strategy

  • Support the Scottish government’s policy relating to Malawi

  • Align with the school’s commitment to the local community

  • Provide pupils with enriching development opportunities

  • Demonstrate the school’s promise to offer breadth of opportunity to its students.
