Blantyre may not be the official capital of Malawi, but it is considered to be the capital of commerce and industry. Located in the Shire Highlands, it is a compact city with hilly vistas, some interesting sights and good restaurants. It was founded by Scottish missionaries and named after the town where David Livingstone was born.

Meeting the chief

Aaron (in Scotland football top!) and Paul drive through Blantyre to introduce us to Open Arms and the village chief.

Village chief

The village chief has been kind enough to receive us every time we visit.

Every year she looks younger, despite her reported 95 to 105 years of age!
