Thread

Thread

Thread is a networking technology with similarities to other protocols such as Z-Wave and WiFi. It is intended to be "the best way to connect and control products in the home and buildings". While Thread has been around for many years it appears to be ready to take off from 2022, due to relationship with "Matter". From my perspective I am interested in how it will impact and work with other control products based on Z-Wave and KNX.

Information about Thread

The following are useful resources on Thread.

  1. https://www.threadgroup.org/

  2. Open source implementation of Thread https://openthread.io/

Thread utilises 802.15.4 at the Network layer.

Information about Thread and KNX

  1. There is a Market Interest Group called IP-BLiS https://www.ipblis.org/ which is a group aimed at improving the way Thread, KNX and other building communications protocols work together. IP-BLiS do "not write new technical specifications" and possibly do not provide significant information to assist in understanding the connectivity between Thread and KNX. However, the existence of this group possibly highlights the significance of the work by members to work together with Thread.

  2. Thread have also published information about their work with KNX
