The user interface of MackinVIA allows users to seamlessly access all their digital resources with a single login and password. The MackinVIA™ Reader allows users to view and interact with digital content hosted by Mackin. Users can search inside the eBooks, utilize a dictionary, cite sources, and export their notes to Google Drive or OneDrive.

eBook Access & Licensing:

  • Classroom Licenses: These licenses are assigned to a specific student and are purchased with a limited length of time, for example 60 days or 90 days. Classroom licenses are assigned to a single student to use throughout the entire license period.

  • Single-User Access: Available to be used by one student, teacher or staff member at a time. Single-user titles come in perpetual or subscription license types. The perpetually licensed titles mean you will never have to repurchase this license; you have access to it forever.

  • Multi-User Access: Available to all students, teachers, and staff members at the school at once. Multi-user titles are purchased one license per school.

  • Metered Access: Titles are available for a certain amount of checkouts, usually 26 or 52. These eBooks are available as single-user, so one patron can check out at a time. Once the title is checked out the maximum amount of checkouts, it will expire.

Student Management:

With the tools in MackinVIA™, teachers can guide students in navigating, comprehending, and engaging with digital novel studies by using:

  • Organization Tools: Using the MackinVIA™ app, students can download titles for offline reading and listening. MackinVIA™ Groups allows teachers to group together titles and other free online resources by content area & units of study, and then use their learning management system to link students directly to the group of titles needed for instruction.

  • Vocabulary Tools: An embedded Merriam-Webster Dictionary gives instant access to pronunciation and word meaning.

  • Information Tools: Book Info feature identifies the book’s title, author, publisher, copyright, and a summary of the book’s content. The citation feature offers different citation styles in proper format for easy access.

  • Export Tools: MackinVIA™ has an export function that allows students to save their notes to an online content management system, such as Google Drive or OneDrive.

Student Engagement:

Students can use the following tools to interact with texts:

  • Annotation Tools: Students can highlight and underline text.

  • Notebook: Students can write questions and annotations about the highlighted text.

Student Privacy and Security:

MackinVIA is designed for PK-12 environments to house, manage, and provide easy access to all digital resources utilizing a single username and password. Districts can create student accounts. Read more about Mackin's privacy policy, FERPA and COPPA compliance here.
