As educators, it is important that we are creative in our thinking regarding our teaching strategies. It is one of the many ways that we can fit the curriculum with the child instead of fitting the child to the curriculum. It is important that the curriculum is taught in ways that accommodates for all needs.
This soft entry activity was creating to show Lakehead University's teacher candidates an example of what they can do in the classroom with their students. Soft entries are used as transitions when the students arrive in the morning, throughout the day after different subjects, after lunch, or after recess. It is important that the video relates to the students interests. For example, the majority of the teacher candidates were born in the 90's and have watched the television show The Fresh Prince of Bell Air. This is why the GoNoodle was a dance to the theme song.
Morning meetings are a great way for students to start the school day. The children greet each other in various ways (handshakes, high-fives or simply just greeting their peers). This allows the students to feel like they are part of a community. The morning meetings can also include sharing (sharing something that they did the night before), activity/game and reviewing the daily schedule.
It is important to incorporate the various multiple intelligences into the students daily lessons. The multiple intelligences include musical, kinesthetic, interpersonal, linguistic, mathematical, naturalistic, intrapersonal and visual.

Land acknowledgments should be shared in the morning before the school day begins. The following land acknowledgment was taken from a York Region District School Board website:
"We would like to start by acknowledging that we are on the traditional territories of the Wendat, the Haudenosaunee, and the Anishinaabe peoples, whose presence here continues to this day. We also would like to acknowledge that this is the treaty lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit and thank them and other Indigenous peoples for sharing this land with us. We would also like to acknowledge the Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation as our closest Indigenous community and our partners in education.
We acknowledge this land and the people because the first step to reconciliation is recognizing the existence of Indigenous people. The Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada Calls to Action (numbers 62-63) speak to the significance of education as the key to reconciliation. A shared understanding of how our collective past brought us to where we are today will help us walk together into a better future" (York Region District School Board, 2020).

Land acknowledgements are not about pointing fingers and placing blame on certain communities. They are about reflecting and including the Indigenous community as a whole. Ultimately, land acknowledgments are "...a formal statement that recognizes and respects Indigenous Peoples as traditional stewards of this land and the enduring relationship that exists between Indigenous Peoples and their traditional territories" (Northwestern, 2020, Know the land column).
