Finished with you artwork! Now what?
Clean up your space and return all materials.
Spray your final artwork with fixative (outside or in the designated area).
Take a clear photo of your finished piece for your digital portfolio. Quality is key.
Use the remaining class time to update and complete your digital portfolio.
Are you still feeling confused? Check out this completed student example from a previous 9th grade student's work on this same abstract art project: Student Example. It will look different in some ways from your digital portfolio but it gives you a sense of what a finished portfolio page may include.
Reminder:
Your portfolio link is due before the start of next class.
We’ll be starting a new project next time, and there will be no more class time to work on this piece.
Finish strong and make sure your process is fully documented!
Grading
Where does my grade come from?
Introduction to Foundations - Important Documents - Grading
"For every art project you complete, you will receive two separate grades: one for Creating & Presenting and one for Connecting & Responding.
The Creating & Presenting grade reflects how you develop your ideas, experiment with materials, and present your final work.
The Connecting & Responding grade is based on how you reflect on your choices, connect your work to artists, ideas, or personal experiences, and demonstrate your thinking.
All of your grades will come from your digital portfolio, so it is essential that you document your process and submit your portfolio on time. This includes photos, notes, experiments, and reflections. If your work and process are not included in your portfolio, they cannot be assessed."
Understanding this vocabulary in relationship to THIS project Abstract Art:
Creating
I used a variety of lines, shapes, textures, and forms in my artwork.
I showed layering over multiple days to create space and depth.
I documented experimentation, including both successful and unsuccessful attempts.
My composition shows balance and unity in the final work.
The finished piece feels complete and communicates an idea or emotion.
Presenting
My Digital Portfolio is finished and submitted on time.
My visual evidence is clear, showing my learning instead of just telling it.
My final artwork photo is cropped, clear, and high quality.
Connecting
I made a clear connection to at least one artist or inspiration (Fireman, Reno, artist study, etc.).
I used the Elements & Principles of Art (line, color, balance, contrast, etc.) to create emotion or meaning.
My artistic style is starting to come through in the work.
Responding
I used clear, concise and relevant art vocabulary (e.g., radial composition, contrast, layering).
I explained my own thoughts and voice as an artist.
My writing helps make my visuals clearer, not just “filler text.”
I reflected critically on how well I met the project goals.
