Open Composition v Closed Composition
Balance in Art:
Symmetry

Asymmetry
Now that you’ve learned a bit about composition, take a moment to ask yourself:
Did you naturally apply any of these ideas in your artwork today?
Think about how you arranged shapes, used space, created balance, or led the viewer’s eye throughout your artwork.
As you continue working, intentionally apply a composition concept to strengthen your piece, even in abstract art, your choices make a big visual impact.
Use your knowledge of the elements and principles of art and composition to give meaningful feedback to your peers. Your critique should include:
One area of strength: something that is working well or inspiring
One area for growth or wonder: something that could be improved or developed further.
Example:"I wonder if the composition in the work could be made stronger by adding emphasis marks into your diagonal S curve to create more visual movement?"
Be specific and use art vocabulary to explain your thoughts clearly. Focus on being helpful, respectful, and thoughtful. Your feedback is part of everyones creative growth!
