Welcome to Visual Art Foundations
Course Description:
In this class, you will explore a wide range of artistic styles, materials, and themes to build a strong foundation in visual art. Through hands-on projects, you will begin to develop your creative voice while learning the importance of process and experimentation. This course also offers a preview of what to expect in IB DP Visual Arts, helping you to build early habits of reflection and documentation. Throughout the semester, you will maintain a digital portfolio to track your progress, celebrate your successes, and create a resource you can revisit for years to come. The goal is for every student to create work they are proud of and to understand that the journey of making art is just as important as the final piece.

Hello and welcome to Visual Art Foundation. I am so excited for this school year and to be joining you all at FDR and in this course! I am passionate about art and art history and feel lucky to work with students who share this passion! Beyond the classroom, I love new experiences in the arts, sports, food, and travel. In my daily life, I enjoy trying new things. I look forward to getting to know you over this school year as we experiment with many new ways of viewing and creating art!
Food For Thought
Picasso created more than 50,000 works of art in his life. Of those, about 100 are considered to be masterpieces. Less than 1% of his creations are still relevant today. The take away... Stop trying to be perfect! It's a numbers game. Start creating and be courageous enough to share your work with the world.
