Dream City -- TAMARA

I picked Tamara from Invisible cities. I love the desperation of the city from the book. I thought the city of Tamara is unique and I want to build a city like Tamara. My general conceptual and aesthetic goals in visualizing it were to create a floating city above the clouds with different signboards on the building.

The city I chose for the midterm project is Tamara. I really enjoy reading this book because when we really start to look at a city, we see that the city is a perfect miniature model of the current world. Interspersed with the city are the relationships between people and the city, people and people, the city and history, the city and other cities, in which we can see life, desire, order, the future, and the meaning they embody.

Tamara is one of my favorite cities, and I love the description of Tamara. My project ideas inspired from this paragraph from the book : “Finally the journey leads to the city of Tamara. You penetrate it along streets thick with signboards jutting from the walls. The eye does not see things but images of things that mean other things: pincers point out the tooth-drawer’s house; a tankard, the tavern; halberds, the barracks; scales, the grocer’s.”

My intention for the project is to create a floating city above the clouds with different signboards on the building. My challenges for the project is 3D-modeling using Rhino. Since this is my first time using the 3D-modeling software, I am a little unfamiliar with Rhino. So it takes me a lot of time to build the city. But the process of building the city was fun. I also spend amount time to doing the render. I used VRAY software to render my city. In the future, I could improve my works by adding more buildings and small details such as: plants in the city, details of building, people on the road, etc. I also want to try different textures for the render part.
