Football Game Chaperone Responsibilities
Ensure the safety of our students at all times!
School rules apply at all times: behavior, language, etc. If there is a problem, please speak to the student or find a director.
Please wear your wristband at all times. This band is your admission into the stadium.
Do not allow non-chaperones to enter the stadium for free - this includes your family!
The students have been forewarned. Chaperones speak for the directors. Please speak up if you need to!
Pre-Game
Please arrive on time (usually 5:30p for home games, but times may vary) and check in with the Volunteer coordinator. If required, they will have a wristband for you to enter/leave the football stadium.
Follow the students from the band room / cafeteria to the stadium (~5:45p for a 7p home game kick off)
During the game - in the stands
If a student near you needs to use the restroom, you must walk them to the facility. Try to assemble restroom breaks in small groups. Please ensure restroom breaks are timely and students don't get distracted. Return promptly to the stands.
Students may not use the concession stand unless there is an emergency.
Do not allow non-band students to sit in the band section. Furthermore, in an effort to keep our students safe and somewhat paying attention, do not allow students to engage in conversations with fans. Students should never turn their back to the drum major.
No playing is allowed unless authorized by the drum major or director.
Do not allow fans to stand in front of the band - keep them moving past our section.
Help protect our equipment by keeping an eye on instruments and assisting students when things are dropped.
2 chaperones must stay in the stands to guard our equipment during half-time. Do not allow anyone to sit in the band area during half-time.
Pre-set the drink coolers and several trash cans from our area of the stands.
With 7 minutes left in the second quarter, students will file out of the stands. Please supervise and keep them safe and on task.
Half-time
3 chaperones are needed to assist the front ensemble in setting up equipment, including the drum major podiums and field markers if necessary.
Once the band begins performing, sit back and enjoy the show!
Supervise the students as they put their equipment in the stands after the show.
The students will move to the area behind the scoreboard for their break after removing plumes and jackets.
Coolers and trash cans should be pre-set behind the scoreboard.
3rd Quarter
Students usually are on break. Students will "hang out" as a group behind the scoreboard. Drinks are available. They may use the restroom if a chaperone accompanies them. Students may not use the concession stand.
All but 2 chaperones must supervise the students during the break (the remaining 2 chaperones will stay in the stands with the equipment).
Non-band students are not allowed in the break area. Furthermore, band students may not leave the break area.
With 3 minutes remaining in the third quarter, start moving students back to the stands. They must be ready to play when the clock hits 0:00!
Please keep a lookout for rowdy behavior and trash being thrown on the ground. Bring the trash cans back to the stands when done.
After the Game
Once students are finished in the stands, they exit for the band room. Please make sure the area is clean and ensure no items are left behind.
Supervise the students as they prepare for departure. Once the crowd has thinned out, you are free to go!
