When I took CRS 560, Foundations of Creative Learning, we had to "Adopt a Scholar". My classmates and I were assigned creativity scholars from history to research. I was excited to receive Ravenna Helson as my scholar from hearing her brief history. I picked up her book Women on the River of Life: A Fifty-Year Study of Adult Development from Butler Library and I was able to get a glimpse of who she really was. Not only did Helson begin longitudinal research of women, she was also researching herself and recognizing the changes she would experience throughout the span of her life. Her story is very admirable and inspirational to me.Â
"The Mills Longitudinal Study is a body of research that spans 50 years of the lives of 142 women from Mills College. Women were surveyed from their early 20s in 1958 all the way up to their early 70s as recent as the year 2020. This study was the first of its kind that focused on the creativity and leadership of women...Additionally, this study would produce over 100 publications that are linked to Ravenna Helson."
