During my first semester in the program I got to experience being a facilitator for the first time while in a group. In CRS 610 Facilitation of Group Problem Solving, we had to facilitate a Creative Problem Solving session with a client.
Our group was assigned our classmates as a client with the area of concern being "weave creative thinking and problem solving into our school/classroom".
We began the facilitation with a step-forward warm up. Then we split up the class into groups of 5 for stick-em up brainstorming to idea on the problem: "How might we weave creative thinking and problem solving into our school/classroom/workplace?" We also noted to our participants that they should ideate as if there are no limits on budget or supplies and no obstacles in administrator or coworkers.
Then we had our groups establish their hits in a specific sticker color. Afterwards, each group switched and marked their hits on the opposite groups board. Post-its were then clustered into categories.
The last step of this facilitation was implementation. This was my role in the group. I was tasked with restating the question as an answer and then we asked our classmates how they could take action in their workplace starting tomorrow.
I remember being very nervous for this as I was only a couple months into the program at this point. We also had a bigger size group to coordinate into roles so it was kind of chaotic but we were able to get through it successfully.
