To receive travel reimbursement from the GI Division ($1000 over the course of the 3 years) complete the DOIM OFF Campus Leave Request (detail the dates of the conference) and the Travel Authorization Form (estimate your costs). Submit these forms to Alethea Grant (alethea.grant@vcuhealth.org) at least the week prior to leaving for the conference. Note these forms must be complete PRIOR to the conference in order to receive funding.
During the conference save all of your original receipts and then complete the Travel Reimbursement form. Submit to Alethea Grant.
The application for scholarly activity funding is available to all Internal Medicine fellows. Up to $1000 in funding is available for eligible scholarly activity; funds may be increased up to $1500 for conference travel that is west of the Rocky Mountains or international. Applications MUST be submitted no later than 30 days prior to the first day of your conference in order to be considered.
Please be aware that this is a competitive funding application. All application materials will be submitted to a committee of up to five fellowship program directors who will decide, on a case by case basis, if (and to what extent) reimbursement will be granted.
In order to receive funding, fellows must submit an abstract for presentation to a local/regional/state/national/international meeting, and receive notification that their work has been accepted. Fellows are also required to obtain prior approval to attend the meeting from their program director. Approval for funding is not guaranteed and is based on the following criteria:
· Scientific merit: this includes design methodology, overall analysis, and novelty
Funding is granted in priority to:
o Original research
o Hypothesis-driven research
o Prospective and retrospective studies
o Case reports/series, curricular innovations, or quality improvement
Other items considered in the approval process:
o Number of times a fellow has received funding previously
o Duration of the fellowship
