Ku Klux Klan - armed bands threatened African Americans who tried to vote.
Literacy Tests - these tests determined if one was able to read. They were not required for voting, but they were made hard for black citizens while white people were free from this requirement.
Poll Taxes - they were used for registration fees, but they were not burdensome to the poor. They had to be paid in advance and weren't allowed to be paid the day of the election.
