Majority of policies were stalled in Congress by Republicans and Southern Democrats.

President Johnson (1963 - 1969)
Takes over after Kennedy's assignation and continues his reforms as tribute.
Johnsons on a campaign based on creating a "Great Society" and calling for a "War on Poverty".
Programs include Medicare, Medicaid, Project Head Start, Housing and Urban Development Act, and Appalachian Regional Development Act.
Vietnam War and the Great Society
Even with the help of all Great Society programs. Many Americans were still living in Poverty.
The U.S proceeded to get involved in the Vietnam War which forced President LBJ to withdraw funding from the Great Society Programs.
