Black Codes, Nadir, Sharecropping

Black Codes maintained the Southern society with little interference, despite the abolition of slavery. They were based on the past slaves codes. Each Southern state would write their own code. When freedmen wanted to travel or leave their jobs, Black Codes made it illegal. 

Sharecropping is when a landowner a place to live, tools, a mule and land to a sharecropper. The sharecropper would take care and sell the crops, but they will only get half of the earnings. To later on pay debt, the sharecropper must greater share for the upcoming years.

Debt Peonage is when tenants/ sharecropper owe cash loads or the use of tools, they were not allowed to leave until they payed their debts. 

Nadir: when African Americans were unprivileged from their civil/political rights until the Civil Rights.
