Ford: inherited and carried out Nixon's foreign policy, which was marked by significant setbacks as well as achievements during his brief administration.
Carter: his human rights-focused foreign policy struggled to implement consistent objectives and was hampered by domestic problems, despite some early achievements such as the Camp David Accords.
Opinion question: Based on each President's foreign policy what do you think is America's perception of each president and what do you think is the World's perception of the United States?
Nixon accomplished great things for the US, but the Watergate scandal was too big to ignore, Ford was successful in maintaining international peace, but gas price inflation was a problem, and Carter handled the Camp David Accords and PLO well, but was unable to reduce rising tensions with the Soviet Union following their invasion of Afghanistan and the Israel Hostage Crisis. While most people view the US as a mediator, Eastern Europe and Russia may view the US as an enemy focused on eliminating communism.
