ROOF TILE FACTORY FOR DANKOTUWA
The vision for the roof tile factory in Dankotuwa, Sri Lanka, aims to revitalize the declining clay roof tile industry by addressing common perceptions of clay tiles lacking strength and durability. The project features three entrances for different purposes and a systematic process for tile production, including sorting tiles for various uses and utilizing unusable ones for mosaic arts to minimize environmental impact.
The factory layout consists of six blocks, housing facilities such as showrooms, a canteen, a kiln, an administration area, and machinery space, organized around a central courtyard. Technical aspects focus on using roof tiles and iron for construction, incorporating openings in facades to regulate interior heat, and implementing clay air conditioning facades to mitigate heat around the kiln area.
Overall, the project integrates functionality, sustainability, and aesthetics to rejuvenate the traditional roof tile manufacturing industry.
