Chania

Flying to Crete

The event will take place at the Orthodox Academy of Crete (OAC) located near Kolymbari in the West of Crete Island.

Please make sure to book your air tickets to Chania international airport (CHQ). Note that the island of Crete is served by two international airports: The "Nikos Kazantzakis" airport of Heraklion (HER) and the "Ioannis Daskalogiannis" airport of Chania (CHQ). The airport of Chania (CHQ) is by far the most convenient airport, as the "Orthodox Academy of Crete (OAC)" is only 45 km (28 miles) away.

If you arrive at the Heraklion airport, you will have to take a bus to Chania and then a bus or taxi from there to Kolymbari, so more than 3 hours are needed: How to get from Chania to Heraklion. But if you have time before or after the event, it is good to go to Heraklion, to visit Knossos Palace (Labyrinth) and the excellent Heraklion Archeological Museum about the 3.000 year history of Crete, beginning of the Occidental civilization.

Here how to book a taxi and the prices, in particular to go from Chania airport to Kolymbari, where OAC is located.

The building of the Municipal Market was listed as a preserved monument by the Hellenic Ministry of Culture, in 1980. It has a cruciform plan, and it reminds one of the “Cast-iron architecture” buildings of the late 19th century. The architecture is typical of the Industrial Revolution era and its designs were modeled after the market in Marseille.
