Situational analysis report
To understand current ICT readiness in the country, the National Task Force which is formed and appointed by the government carried out a situation analysis, consisting of the national-level and teachers’ readiness surveys on ICT in education. The national-level survey was conducted through a focus group interview. The teachers’ readiness survey was conducted online and offline, covering 304 teachers in urban and rural districts in six target provinces representing each sub-national level (North, Central and South) of Lao PDR.

1st National Workshop: Developing ICT Competency Standards for Teachers

The 1st National Workshop provides a step-by-step guidance in developing national ICT competency standards for teachers in Lao PDR. It is strongly recommended: 1) to align the competencies with the national education vision and goals, and 2) to ensure that pre-service and in-service teacher training programmes are coherent and continuous. At the end of the workshop, the participants agreed on developing stand-alone ICT-CST, consisting of 6 domains and 3 proficiency levels, and covering both pre- and in-service levels.
2nd National Workshop: Developing ICT Competency Standards for Teachers
7-9 July 2021, Paksan, Bolikhamxay Province, Lao PDR
Following to the 1st workshop which domains and proficiency levels have been identified, in the 2nd National Workshop participants finalize the ICT-CST draft, focusing on the development of performance indicators for each proficiency level. In total 47 performance indicators are developed.
National Consultation Workshop on ICT Competency Standards for Teachers

The workshop is organized to collect feedback and comments from the concerned stakeholders including development partners in order to improve the draft ICT Competency Standards for Teachers. Seventy-two (31 females) concerned stakeholders participated in the workshop. Overall, the participants validated the content of ICT-CST and emphasized the importance of the implementation of the ICT-CST after endorsement. This consultation also served as a platform for the stakeholders to voice their needs for better ICT infrastructure and equipment, and requested the government to support digital devices and make them more affordable and accessible to facilitate the use of ICT in teaching and learning.
3rd National Workshop: Integrating ICT-CST into the Teacher Training Curriculum

4th National Workshop: Integrating ICT-CST into the Teacher Training Curriculum

To facilitate the implementation of the endorsed standards, two final workshops on integration of the ICT-CST into the teacher training curricula were conducted in mid-January and early February 2022, respectively. The preparations for both workshops were undertaken, in close coordination with the national Task Force. The final endorsement of the ICT teacher training course syllabi is expected to be completed before the end of April 2022. The Department of Teacher Education (DTE), the project main counterpart, has expressed their intention to revise the ICT teacher education curriculum to standardize ICT courses in all pre-service teacher education programmes across the preschool, primary and secondary levels, using the government budget.
