COURSE REGISTRATION

Engineering Courses Registration

  • You will receive information regarding registration from the Study Abroad Advisor in your Welcome email. You can also find course registration information on the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page located at https://students.grainger.illinois.edu/ipeng/accepted-students/ , and in the Exchange Student Guide located at https://students.grainger.illinois.edu/ipeng/incoming-exchange-student-resources/ .

  • Registration typically begins in July for the fall participants and December for the spring participants. We will let you know when you are eligible to begin registration for engineering courses. Typically, exchange students can begin registering for courses as soon as they receive their admission documents. If you have any questions regarding classes, please refer to the FAQ and Exchange Student Guide first.

  • Course descriptions can be viewed at https://courses.illinois.edu/.

  • All exchange students are classified as non-degree undergraduate students at Illinois no matter what level they are at their home university.

  • Engineering exchange students are not formally enrolled in any engineering department and will receive registration restriction errors when trying to register for courses. This is normal and you will have an opportunity to request permission to register in courses either prior to your arrival or once you arrive to campus (depending on which engineering department offers the course). Details will be shared through email.

  • Engineering exchange students are not allowed to take any courses offered by:

    • GIES Business (ACCY, BADM, BUS, FIN). If you are able to register in a Gies Business course, you will be dropped from the course. There are no exceptions to this rule.

    • College of Law or any other Professional Program at UIUC.

    • Master of Science in Financial Engineering

  • You are able to register in or request permission to register in courses offered by other Colleges/Departments at UIUC (with the exception of those listed above).

  • Due to high demand, exchange students are limited to 2 Computer Science courses per semester.

  • Exchange students interested in taking Physics courses are limited to 3 courses per semester

  • Grainger Engineering cannot guarantee registration in any course, even if you need that course to complete your degree requirements.
