Students are required to take at least 12 credit hours.

Students will carry a load of 12-18 hours or 4-6 courses. Twelve hours is the minimum course load to maintain full-time student status as required by your J-1 visa. There are a few limited exceptions to this requirement. Please contact the Study Abroad Advisor for more information concerning these exceptions. The language of instruction is English.

While 12 UIUC hours is all that is required to maintain full-time student status for your J-1 visa, you must also meet the credit hour requirement set by your home university. Be sure to discuss this with the Study Abroad Advisor at your home university.
