UDL Guidelines

Learning Objective:

After completing an introductory lesson, participants will be able to correctly identify the three guidelines of Universal Design for Learning.

We reviewed the three (3) core guidelines of UDL in the introduction of this module. Now let's take a little closer look at each one with some examples. Just a reminder, here are those three (3) core guidelines again, and if you would like to review the Introduction, click here.

The following videos are from Rocky Allinger, an instructional designer at Messiah College in Pennsylvania. She breaks down the UDL guidelines and principles into four (4) easy-to-understand videos that explain the purpose of UDL and each of the three (3) major guidelines.

Learning Activity:

  • Using the link below for UDL Guidelines discussion board, think about the objective you wrote for Learning Activity 1 & 2 and the lesson it pertains to and post an idea for how you might address each of the three guidelines in that lesson's activities. Reply to your classmates and offer some suggestions or ask for help with your own activities. This is the beginning of brainstorming activities for your lesson plan you will write at the end of this module.
