Multiple Means of Engagement

Multiple Means of Engagement

This is represented by the "WHY" of learning, or as we saw in the video, the Caring and Prioritizing part of the brain network.

The point of UDL is that there is not one type or means of engagement that will address of the needs and provide an environment for successful learning for ALL students.

The goal is to get students interested in and motivated to learn and reduce barriers to that interest and motivation. Students engage in a variety of ways - some may feel more comfortable in small groups, online, individually, or other options. An example of providing multiple means of engagement may be modifying a classroom discussion to include written, audio, video, and group discussion options for participation.

The ultimate goal is to get students to the stage where they can meet challenges on their own and are self-motivated to engage in learning.
