The Da Nang People's Committee and the Vietnam Software Association (VINASA) co-hosted the Smart City Summit 2019 on October 23, 2019 in Da Nang. The conference aims to share strategic visions and experiences in the development of smart cities in domestic and regional cities, as well as to offer solutions for smart city management, planning, and development that are applicable to other cities based on new technology platforms such as IoT, Big Data, AI, and so on.

University of Danang (UD)'s and multidisciplinary research team, which includes lecturers, researchers, and students from Danang University of Science and Technology (DUT), Danang International Institute of Technology DNIIT, University of Technical Education, College of IT, participated in reporting sessions, presentations, exhibitions, and proposed construction s in the Smart University development strategy, oriented to coordinate smart city development. Da Nang City and other cities are engaged in smart city development in areas such as smart governance, smart economy, smart traffic, smart environment, smart living, and smart citizens, etc.

For many years, the University of Danang (UD) has strategically collaborated with the University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis (UNS) of the University of the Cote d'Azur, France, in studying smart university initiatives targeted at developing smart cities. Building LoRa (Long Range low-power Wide-area network) wireless communication network infrastructure to create IoT (Internet of Things) and AI (Artificial Intelligence) for smart education and smart cities is one of the key topics of research collaboration and test transfer. Cote d'Azur University in France, in collaboration with the Danang International Institute of Technology DNIIT, initially installed the LoRa network coverage system in the "Smart Campus" and "Smart City" for the University of Science and Technology - University of Danang and the entire of Da Nang. The initiatives are investigated, produced, and evaluated using an education and research ecosystem model that includes universities, strategic industrial partners, Danang local administration, and state management ministries. The goal is to create and put into practice the findings and solutions of multidisciplinary, multipartner research groups in order to enhance people's lives and the quality of life and job in Da Nang.

Over the years, University of Danang and its member institutions and institutes have made significant efforts to deploy a variety of research promotion activities in order to increase and improve the quality of scientific research and technology transfer. connected to smart cities The most visible activity is the Smart Campus Campaign, which is launched annually by the DNIIT Institute - UD in collaboration with the Université de Côte d'Azur and the Agence universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) at UD's member universities from 2017 to present in order to find and develop ideas and solutions in creative projects to serve the construction of the space "Smart University" and smart city at UD in particular and Vietnamese universities in general. In addition, as part of the Smart Campus Campaign series of events, University of Danang, the Da Nang Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations, and domestic and international businesses collaborated to organize a special session on the success of the project CSEI 2019 "Da Nang Smart City: Experiences and Innovations" within the framework of the IEEE RIVF 2019 international conference to exchange experiences and ideas in building a smart city between city representatives. UD will continue to host the international conference on smart cities, SCEI 2020, in 2020.


The excellent articles of the Smart Campus 2019 Campaign were selected to be displayed at the Conference, along with exhibitions from businesses, and received much attention from guests and leaders.

The experience of many years of collaborative research reveals that the innovative and applied research ecosystem model can only be successfully developed with the effective cooperation of government agencies, companies, enterprises, and universities. DNIIT Institute, University of Science and Technology, and UD's member universities are continually striving as a strategic partner of Da Nang city to collaborate on research and development in order to realize the objective of completing the building of smart urban regions and smart urban networks in the country and the ASEAN region by 2030.
