Understanding Learning Express (Lex)
In a word, Learning Express is an international social innovation program in which participants use Design Thinking approaches to develop innovative solutions to community challenges. Learning Express, which is organized and maintained by Singapore Polytechnic, gives students from many nations the opportunity to see the natural environment and learn new skills. Long days of working together, playing together, and living together with locals have resulted in many amazing and heartbreaking memories.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In order for Learning Express seasons to be successful, in addition to the help of the SP - DUT School Leaders and teacher supervisors, there are always incredibly skilled, energetic, and devoted individuals behind them. Focus on LeX: student coordinators.
Student coordinators, who are responsible for handling the program's crucial work from start to end, must have exceptional work and time management abilities. Coordination of large events is challenging, but anticipating little unanticipated issues and finding solutions to them is much more difficult. The student coordinator is in charge of preparation and serves as the point of contact for all work items. For example, establishing the work schedule, modes of transportation, living habits, lodging, food, and water... and then looking after roughly 30 students in each project is a lot of effort. a massive task Not only that, but a student coordinator must be extremely talented and well-rounded in all areas. They must have a deep understanding of Design Thinking in order to retrain other LeXers, must be fluent in English communication, must have weight in their words to influence others, have the gift of leading a team, etc. ..
The opening lines of the LeX Student Coordinator history page have inscribed the names of two prominent faces from the Faculty of Advanced Science and Technology throughout four generations: Do Hoang Phuc (alumnus of 13ECE), Tran Nguyen Phu Phu (student 15ECE).
"I personally am one of 6 students engaging in TFI-SCALE for the first time in 2016, as well as participating in two Learning Express projects under With varied responsibilities, I clearly notice my improvement with each such project," Do Hoang Phuc said cheerfully. Going out, working and living among Singaporeans, understanding their civilisation, working attitude, and thinking skills, I believe is something every student should attempt at least once. With such opportunities, power!"
Hoang Phuc is a very active and sociable student, as seen by his style and look. Joining LeX for the first season, then participating in TFI SCALE 2016 (a comparable program to LeX), LeX 2016, and finally TFI SCALE 2017, Phuc has gained a deep understanding of Design Thinking. With strong English communication abilities, incredibly effective work organization, and time management skills, Phuc was worthy to become a Student Coordinator for those two projects throughout the season of LeX II and TFI SCALE 2017. Hoang Phuc was consistently interested in students from both Singapore and the University of Science and Technology over the duration of the project. Phuc consistently cautions the DUT student group before proceeding to the next level of the project.
Do Hoang Phuc has made a great contribution to the successful LeX seasons, built an ideal role model of LeX hero, and is a bright example for the next generations to learn and follow.
Tran Nguyen Phu Phu, 15ECE - talented and comprehensive Student Coordinator
Tran Nguyen Phu Phu
For Phu Phu, school-based knowledge is insufficient; instead, he must immerse himself in the society, engage on numerous experiences and difficulties from the school of life, in order to mature. As a result, Phu Phu does not hesitate to engage in the club's major activities or events both within and outside of school. At the same time, Phu's academic achievements are commendable, since he consistently receives an annual study award for good and great students. It is difficult to balance school and extracurricular activities. Having a modest figure in height, but with a calm style, fast, funny and attractive way of talking, Phu Phu always makes a good impression and sympathy for others. Few people understand that underneath that modest guy lies a vast ocean of skill, but he was "enriched" for Phu when he was born. As vice president of the Community of Advanced Program Students (CAPS), founder and leader of the band CAPS-Band for nearly 2 years, and participant in the skills activities of the Boy Scouts club city, as well as Head of the Community of Advanced Program Students' Soft Skills Department (CAPS-Skill),... all of this has resulted in an excellent Student Coordinator.
Because the program is taught entirely in English, Advanced Program students have a language advantage, as well as many opportunities to interact with extracurricular activities thanks to the Community of Advanced Program Students (CAPS), which is easy to understand when many FAST students have many advantages when participating in Learning Express and TFI-SCALE – two international programs. When questioned about his experiences, Tran Nguyen Phu Phu (15ECE1) modestly stated, "My English is not very excellent, but it is because of engaging in events like this that my English is not really good."I have become more fluent in communication, and at the same time equipped myself with necessary skills in leadership, teamwork, problem solving, etc., soft skills that will help me a lot in my studies and future career.”A teacher facilitator of the LeX project from Singapore once asked Phu Phu to expose him to some of the best restaurants and attractions in Da Nang. Phu responded with a lot of important information, startling the teacher facilitator and joking with Phu: "Oh, no. You have to be a tour guide! - Oh, no! I must carry out a directive! It's obvious that you're a tour guide!"
Tran Nguyen Phu Phu, student coordinator who carried the blood flowing through four seasons of LeX II, III, and IV, LeX V, has effectively achieved its goal when following the success of senior Do Hoang Phuc, providing successful LeX seasons.
One thing is certain: LeX members have experienced a very fascinating learning method: Experiential Learning, which has resulted not only in a working environment with foreigners, but also in a deeper knowledge of their country's culture. Hoang Phuc and Phu Phu, two student organizers and LeX participants, are the pride of the FAST faculty and the Polytechnic University in general. Above all, be proud of yourself since you have worked hard to provide yourself with the opportunity to experience Learning Express.
Hopefully, future generations will see more exceptional faces, and the LeX timeline will be filled with more outstanding people!

LeX generation III continued to be a huge success in 2017. With the requirements of dynamism, confidence, and English ability, 27 of the best students from Polytechnic University passed two rounds of application review and interview, began to experience Design Thinking training sessions, and experienced the hard but joyful days that took place over a 12-day period from September 24 to October 5. The "Humans of LeX" history page recognizes notable Advanced Program alumni once more. The season of LeX III closes with tears of nostalgia, tight hugs and mutual promises for cross-border friendships.
With the flow of time, the LEX IV season returns to the roof of DUT in the late autumn air, when light golden leaves fall with unexpected rains, bringing with them new people, new connections, and new ideas. New ideas aid in the transformation of communities. The fourth Learning Express officially began on September 24, 2018, with the participation of instructors on the Board of Directors, project management teachers, professors from Singapore Polytechnic, and 57 students from two DUT-SP schools.

One day before, the DUT student group had prepared very surprising things to welcome the SP delegation at Da Nang international airport. More touching stories, many beautiful friendships have begun here...

The group "Tuy Loan Rice Paper Village" was pleased to meet their dear "Buddy's" at the Da Nang International Airport
Tuy Loan Rice Paper Village and Phu Thuong Stone Village were chosen for students to learn about the challenges that the local community is facing in this project. This year's LeX IV season recognized the following outstanding students:
Tran Nguyen Phu Phu (15ECE) with a buddy from Singapore Polytechnic
Dang Hoang Nhu Nguyen (14PFIEV)
Le Minh (16ECE)
Nguyen Van Minh Nhan (17ECE)
The program's concluding ceremony took held on the afternoon of October 3, 2018, in a very calm and emotional mood. The original ideas, shaped over roughly 10 days by the Design Thinking technique and the hands of brilliant LeXer artisans, have eventually become functional models and solutions that improve the lives of the people.
After the ceremony, each other's "buddy" appeared to have sat closer together, spoke more, and exchanged exceedingly charming and meaningful gifts. Because she was going to split, tears streamed down her face. This is the moment when you realize you have the blood of a talented LeXer and are a member of the Learning Express community. LeX IV has come to an end but it promises to everyone that another LeX V season is coming!

The goal of Learning Express is to further the methodologies of Design Thinking and Social Innovation. Providing chances for students from many fields and universities to collaborate, employing knowledge skills as well as Design Thinking approaches, to jointly discover the challenges that the local community is experiencing. As a result, creative solutions to fulfill the requirements of the local community are developed. Finding clean water supplies, alternative energy sources, remodeling and renovating manufacturing, increasing health, and conducting business successfully are some of the problems that Learning Express must overcome. When you meet and chat with locals, you will broaden your knowledge, learn many interesting things, many distinct cultures, and the living patterns of people in many different places.
What students learn when participating in LeX
The first advantage is a grasp of transnational culture. Participants will learn about the local history and society in order to better comprehend concerns while engaging with the community. Deep cross-cultural contacts across nations will give students with significant insights at that time, enriching students' cultural understanding.
The second advantage is that it allows you to put what you've learnt into reality. Students can obtain significant compassion and understanding of people's worries and difficulties by perceiving their environment. Students will gather insights and create a picture of people's wants using the Design Thinking process (Persona). This learning exercise has enormous value for each individual student in creating concepts as well as helping pupils create a learning style based on feelings because of the interesting and direct character of the experience.
The third advantage is that it improves interpersonal skills. Participants will learn how to work in groups and use a wide range of information in projects while working in a collaborative setting.
