Announcements & Event Updates
Welders:
- GRINDERS for cleaning welds and prep - Battery Preferred preferred outlets are limited for electric corded grinders.- Grinders will NOT be provided at the event, bring if needed.
- Event Size - with 445 students from 32 High Schools- we will need everyone to be on time, be prepared and ready to compete. CWIs and Judges will be evaluating students while they weld to provide feedback, answer questions to give students the feedback.
- Time Limits - We will be enforcing time limits for each level/test and CWI may dismiss a student earlier if they are struggling and/or test can be determined as a non pass.
- Build off starts at 9am - Build off Teams will have priority to weld first between 8-9 then others may start the test process.
- Belt Buckles - Grand and Reserve Welding Belt Buckles with be awarded based on student participation and placing points. Students with the highest points in 4 out of 5 contests will be the winners. Points can be accrued in Build Off, Welding, Quiz and Tool, Underwater, Cutting.
The Texas High School Welding Series is kicking off the 5th year of welding certification events at the Waller County Fair on September 30th, 2023. Waller County will start off the year with welding certification tests, oxy-fuel cutting contest, tool identification and safety knowledge contest, and underwater welding. Competitions and Certifications are open to Texas High School Students and the event is open for the public to view.

(Included in your $15 Welding Event Entry Fee)Parents, Teachers, Guests $5 at the Gate
Only if you want a wrist band for the Fair Events too!Students Competing in the Welding Event will also receive a wrist band to the Waller County Fair. This wrist band allows them access to all of the Fairs Events or the day of Sept 25th. Including the Rodeo and the Concert that are happening that evening.

IMPORTANT INFO:
All Welding Levels will allow chipping hammers and wire brushes. In addition to that Levels 1&2 will allow battery powered grinders with wire wheels, and Levels 3&4 will allow grinders with wire wheels and grinding disks for light grinding needs.

Cutting Contest
Registered Students will earn their way to compete in three rounds of cutting challenges. Challenges my be timed, or for accuracy and/or both. After each round only the top scores will advance to the next rounds challenge.
IMPORTANT: Each individual needs bring their own their own PPE this includes, clear/dark face shield, safety glasses and gloves that are to be worn at all times while in the cutting area.

*All Students that register for a welding certification level are automatically entered for compete in the Cutting Contest Challenge.
Waller County Build Off Event
Each School that attends will be able to register a Build Off Team of 2-3 High School Students.

Quiz and Tool ID Event
Registered Students are eligible to take the Tool ID and Safety Knowledge Test. This event consists of Identifying 20 tools form the Tool List below and answering 30 question (T/F & Multiple Choice) from the Quiz and Tool ID Study Guide .
Top 5 winners will be recognized.

Underwater Welding
The Ocean Corp
Students with the best under water weld passes will have the opportunity to earn a Dive Coin that will qualify them for the Underwater Welding and Diving State Event this summer at The Ocean Corp in Houston.
At the State event students will compete for TOC Scholarships and prizes as well as the opportunity to earn an AWS D3.6 Welding Certification.
