Austin County Fair Picnic Build Off
- Entry Fee - $125 Per Build off Team
- Max up to 4 member per Team
Winning Table Auctioned Off Proceeds plus prizesto top 3 teams
Rules:
1. Blueprints and materials will be provided to each team immediately following the safety meeting.
2. A time allotment of 6 hours will be given to construct the project.
3. A working lunch will be provided for students. Time will not stop for lunch. Students may also bring a cooler and snacks.
4. Teachers will have the first 15 minutes with their students in the contest area from 8:00am to 8:15am. After that teachers will not be allowed in the contest area.
5. Safety will be judged while the contest is being performed. Deductions will be made to the final rubric for safety violations. Safety judges do reserve the right to disqualify a
team for being unsafe.
6. Teams must have a fire extinguisher present in the work area at all times.
7. Suggested tools include but are NOT LIMITED to (what you bring is what you will have to work with):
1. Generator/welder No electricity will be provided
2. Grinders with appropriate wheels and handles (guards are required)
3. Abrasive chop saw
4. Extension cords
5. GMAW, FCAW or SMAW processes are allowed ELECTRODES NOT PROVIDED
6. Soapstone or other marking device
7. High cuffed gloves
8. Push/Pull rules
9. Speed and framing squares
10. Wrench and ratchet set SAE
11. Table or metal saw horses
12. Torch - Oxy-fuel or plasma
13. Brooms, dustpans, etc for cleanup
14. Welding magnets
8. PPE REQUIRED
1. Safety Glasses
2. Closed Toed Leather Shoes
3. Long Pants/Blue Jeans
4. Long-sleeved cotton shirt
5. Welding helmet shade 10 or darker
6. Cutting glasses shade 3 or darker
7. Ear plugs
8. Welding gloves
9. Students are not to alter the design in any way.
10. At the conclusion of the contest students may be required to present their project to the
judges and they will have a maximum of 3 minutes per project for presentation and
questions from the judges.
11. Awards will be given to the third through first place team.
