Celebrating Uncertainty

2022 The Year In Photos Slideshow

Each year, I collect the photos of the year from the NY Times and put them into a chronological presentation. Showing this presentation to kids with some music in the background is a POWERFUL springboard for writing prompts about change, uncertainty, etc. I use the prompts at the end of the show, and then we go outside and burn the "Leave Behind" slip, and place the "Reach For" slip in a class time capsule to be opened on the last day of school to inform their final reflection.

According to Margaret Wheatley, strong leaders cannot create change without being willing to be disturbed. In this chapter from her book Turning to One Another: Simple Conversations to Restore Hope to the Future, Wheatley asks educators to reflect on their beliefs and their willingness to have these beliefs challenged.
