THIS GROUP IS CLOSED FOR THE FORSEEABLE FUTURE
Thank you hirvlased for the renown system outline!
Renown is a system to track how well-known and influential your character generally is among various factions. It is an easy way to gauge their general standing. Some specific situations or high-ranking roles require leveling Renown.
If you wanna go hardcore and keep close tabs on your character's renown with every single faction, you can do that. Otherwise, you only need to keep track of it for a specific faction, if you're aiming for a specific renown-locked faction reward.
Renown is the player's responsibility to keep track of!
Renown is calculated separately for every faction.
You can choose whether to count a piece for renown. If you don’t want to level past a certain point for IC reasons, or feel that a piece wouldn’t affect your character’s influence with a faction, you don’t have to count it.
For every qualifying work you do, you can gain 1 new point with the relevant faction! If you interact with multiple territories/factions in the piece, you can earn 1 point toward each of them
(i.e. if the work takes place in Nokoni territory or with a Nokoni wolf, you gain 1 renown point with Nokoni. If you meet a Nokoni wolf and an Aryn wolf in the same RP, youcan get 1 renown point for Nokoni and 1 renown point for Aryn)
If your canon work also fills a Milestone, you earn an additional +1 point toward the relevant faction renown. (i.e. if you are a Nokoni raider and complete the “Go on a Raid” prompt, you earn 2 points in total toward Nokoni)
Each prompt fill counts as a +1. If your piece fulfills the requirement for two different prompts, you can get +2, and so on.
Please don't abuse this by mentioning crossing a river and hunting an elk and looking at the ocean, in one line each, to rack up renown points!
Older work of your character, i.e. from another RP group, must be feasibly canon within the TNL universe to count, and will only contribute towards Loner faction renown.
Your character is recognizably featured in it.
For comics, each panel counts as a separate illustration.
It is something your character actually did or thought/dreamed about
It may be rough or sketchy as a style, but should NOT be a clearly unfinished drawing (you get to decide what qualifies for you!)
It shouldn't be a “sketchdump” or other points farming gimmick. 30 loose headshots or comic panels with minimal variations of a character shouldn't count for renown.
Your character(s) play an active role in it, or their actions are discussed extensively by the participating character(s)
Mentioning "Steve standing over there" once in one line should not earn him renown
If it is a solo piece, it should be at least 300 words.
If it is collaborative writing like an RP, it should be at least 600 words total (i.e. both writer's contributions combined.)
Backgrounds are not required in art, and you do not have to be the creator of the art/writing - gifts and commissions count too for these categories!
Will vary between memes! Check each one's description in the link above for instructions!
Outsider
You are just starting out! Nobody knows you, yet!
Everyone starts out here!
So-Called
Ah, so somebody’s met you now. Somebody’s talked about you to somebody else. You’re that guy, the one they’ve heard about, but nobody really knows who you are yet.
3 Points of renown with relevant faction, total
Somebody
You’ve established yourself now, and are starting to make an impression. Not everybody knows your name, but they’d probably recognize you if they saw you or smelled you.
7 Points of renown with relevant faction, total
Well Known
You might not be recognized on sight, but if somebody says your name, it’s likely that anyone listening has at least heard of you. You’ve met enough folks now, either as friends or enemies, that you’re easy to pick out in a lineup.
15 Points of renown with relevant faction, total
Established
As an Established presence, when you do things, others take notice. Maybe you have a reputation for helping or heckling. Strangers might even be more likely to seek you out… You might not be the MOST influential around, but even so, they’re all paying attention.
24 Points of renown with relevant faction, total
Celebrated/Notorious
You are one of the most well-known, influential wolves out there. Whether they like you or not, everyone here knows who you are. You can use that to your advantage, but the lack of anonymity may also come at a price.
40 Points of renown with relevant faction, total
You are CELEBRATED if you have more friends than enemies.
You are NOTORIOUS if you have more enemies than friends.
Renown can be used to help gauge a character's progress with their faction. Some packs expect a certain level of credibility with them to join or take on certain ranks & privileges.
