THIS GROUP IS CLOSED FOR THE FORSEEABLE FUTURE
Members must be 18 years of age or older and a legal adult in their resident country.
This group is LGBTQIA+ friendly. It does not discriminate on the basis of orientation, identity, race, experience, religion, etc.
OOC harassment & hateful behavior/speech are not allowed.
OOC and IC are strictly separate.
Characters should be individuals, not simply the player's self-insert.
Characters not getting along IC shouldn't be meant or taken personally.
A problematic character does not mean a problematic writer.
Keep heavy venting and real-life politics/current events out of the chat.
No promoting drama, policing, callouts, vaguing, etc.
Don't yuck someone else's yum.
Disputes between members should be settled with direct, respectful 1x1 communication.
If you are feeling harassed or uncomfortable with someone, and the issue can't be resolved privately, WynBird can be asked to arbitrate.
Don't expect people to be mind-readers! Sometimes things are missed, or it's unclear whether there's a genuine conflict. In such cases, mods usually wait to step in until someone expresses discomfort.
Mature, sensitive, and explicit content must be tagged and rated properly.
Respect moderator instructions.
Follow Discord's ToS.
Emphasis is on allowing individuals to tell stories on their own terms. This means:
The passage of time in-universe is left vague when possible.
Major factions are large enough to get lost in, usually stable and don't undergo huge, potentially personal-plot killing cultural or political changes.
3-3-3, Mature, Explicit, Complex, and/or Dark themes are allowed in fictional works if spoilered, tagged, and rated appropriately. This means:
Villains may sometimes win or escape consequences.
Unhealthy and problematic relation-ships may sail.
Stories aren't morality lessons, and might not blatantly condemn evil.
This group accepts "Dead Doves" - and might contain content you consider offensive, triggering, sexually explicit, blasphemous, indecent, or badly written.
Explicit sexual content involving adult TNL characters is allowed in the NSFW gallery.
Do not attempt to convince anyone to participate in or view plots/content/themes/etc that they have asked to be left out of.
If an unwanted topic unexpectedly arises IC, stop and discuss how to proceed comfortably for all involved, even if that means ending or altering a plot/rp/collab.
No powerplay, metagaming, godmodding, minimodding, spamming.
Failure to respect these rules may result in suspension, probation, or banning.
Design rules are intentionally simple.
Mods will generally only step in and ask someone to change their character in the event of extreme issues.
Characters must belong to you. (Taking inspiration and loose fanmade-ish characters are fine, but directly transplanting Balto, Captain America, or Simba into an OC is not allowed.)
Characters are expected to have realistic strengths and weaknesses. If everyone's super, no one is.
Given the nature of the setting, some vaguely spiritualistic abilities are allowed. No explicitly magical or unnatural powers like breathing fire and sprouting wings.
Humans are extinct in the TNL area and would be considered exceedingly rare outside of it, still living as nomadic hunter/gatherers.
Any rank/role listed as "Free to Create" at the end of its description is available to new characters.
Some higher-ranking or highly specialized roles require a certain level of renown.
Most unique leadership roles like the Rime-Wind and Eagle Chief are filled by NPCs, but may eventually be able to be taken over through plot progression if a suitable character becomes eligible.
Common:
All naturally occurring wolf (or creature-specific) fur colors
Some "hairstyle" is allowed, but this should not exceed Alpha & Omega levels of hair-doing
Exist But Considered Unusual:
Piebald, brindle, merle, and other fur patterns usually associated with domestic dogs
Natural looking markings, that do not occur in real-life canines but would not look starkly out of place (i.e. Dun, Boar Spots, Colorpoint)
Don't Exist:
Extremely bright, neon or saturated fur a la rainbow sparkledog
Unnatural shape markings like squares, pentagons, zigzags, the Apple Inc. logo, etc.
Eye Color (Outside of mutations like Fibro-Melanism & Albinism)
Eye irises may be shades of yellow, amber, red, brown, grey, blue, green, or hazel.
Sclera should be yellow, white, or close to white.
Pupils should be black or close to black.
Heterochromia is allowed. (Here’s a good example of an Iberian wolf with hetero)
Characters can have realistic(& -ish) mutations.
Examples include, but are not limited to:
Color: Melanism, Pseudomelanism, Albinism, Erythrism, Vitiligo, Chimeric, Heterochromia
Benign (relatively): Hairless, Curly hair, Kink Curly and Short tails, Floppy ears, Extra toes, Hyperdontia, Anodontia
Impairing: Short-skull / Brachycephaly, Cleft Palate, Gigantism, Dwarfism, Short-Spine, Eyeless, Polymelia
Age Groups:
Pup (0-6 months)
Juvenile (6-12 months)
Young Adult (1-3 years)
Adult (3-8 years)
Elder (8-11 years)
Ancient (11+ years)
Rule of Thumb Height/Weight Ratio:
30'' = 50-70lbs // 76cm = 23-31kg
31'' = 60-80lbs // 79 cm = 27-36kg
32'' = 70-90lbs // 81cm = 32-41kg
33'' = 80-100lbs // 84cm = 36-45kg
34'' = 90-110lbs // 86cm = 41-50kg
35'' = 100-120lbs // 89cm = 45-54kg
36'' = 110-130lbs // 91cm = 50-59kg
Anything outside the average range would generally be considered obese or emaciated.
Characters can adorn themselves loosely with items found in the natural world, depending on the resources available in their range. These include:
Feathers
Flowers
Twigs
Reptile skins
Uncured fur skins
Mud/Clay/Berry/etc “Paint”
Characters cannot craft:
Sewn clothing or backpacks
Complex tools such as swords, bows, tables, clay pots, etc
Metal works requiring a forge or molds
Taxidermy
Frankenstein’s Monster
Slightly more complicated crafts can be created by characters who have learned the skills for it and/or have help from more nimble animals like birds & rodents, which can be worn, gifted, stolen, etc by others, these include:
Small bone ear piercings
Simple plant or sinew-woven bracelets/necklaces/bands
Wreaths of flowers woven together
Bone charms
Decorative bone headdresses
Very large antlers and skulls would be suitable only for ceremonial purposes, smaller ones might be fastened more securely for basic daily use
Roughly cured skins
These will not be as fine or polished as manmade skins, and will still deteriorate over time, but last much longer than uncured skins. Also don’t stink!
Skin Bags - a simple 'pouch' made of cured skin or ruminant stomach, with a vine or sinew strap to loop over the head
These are rudimentary, not likely to be very secure or to hold up well in moments of excitement
"Sleds" - cured skin or a large turtle shell with a vine strap to help drag heavier items
These are rudimentary, not likely to hold up well on rough terrain or in moments of excessive excitement
Any creature that would historically coexist with Canis lupus before the interference of man, including Pleistocene species, are allowed (see WWF map red areas for reference)
Remote or foreign species should have their presence in any unusual biome accounted for.
Prey characters like deer should have their ability to survive, when they are usually considered food, accounted for.
"Mustang" type horses are allowed, but their presence is assumed to be natural rather than manmade
Most non-wolves will be loners. Packs MAY accept certain other species depending on pack lore (i.e. Nokoni keep useful slaves, Aniwaya are allied with ravens), but these should be explained realistically in the character’s bio
All packs have a generic body of NPCs loyal to their faction and culture, which can be referred to in art & lit. These do not have unique stories, character arcs, or designs.
A Nokoni character can just target random unnamed wolves to attack, etc.
NPCs can serve as family members, mates, children, friends, and enemies.
Personal NPCs can be given names and unique designs, and may earn renown.
If you've gotten attached to a personal NPC you've been using, you can turn it into a character whenever you want.
Many factions have NPCs in leadership roles, with bullet point guides for what they will or won't do. As long as you abide by their rules, you can use them in your art and stories at will.
To become mates and/or conceive a litter, all that is required is the consent of both character’s creators.
Keep in mind that many factions have requirements for mateship or pregnancy to be sanctioned. Breaking pack laws may result in IC penalties to your characters. Be sure to read up on your faction(s) laws!
Wolves usually have between 4-6 pups in a litter, but can have up to 14! Pack size and abundance of prey generally affect how many are born and how many survive to adulthood, and is left to your discretion. Note that a 100% survival rate is considered rare, especially for very large litters. Pups can be adopted out, played by you, or turned into NPCs.
If you're using the Renown System, certain depictions of your character's journey to find a mate and raise pups are eligible for Milestone rewards!
Art & writing must not be plagiarized or copyright infringing.
Photobashing, photomanips, and tracing photos is allowed as long as it falls under fair use or they are appropriately licensed.
Premade linearts and backgrounds are allowed as long as their license permits it.
You can use designs or characters you bought from other people.
Make sure to credit your sources somewhere clearly visible!
AI content is not allowed.
You cannot use writing programs like ChatGPT for RP, literature, or character profiles.
You cannot use art programs like StableDiffusion (and subsets like dA's DreamUp) for character design, art, or backgrounds/assets.
Common sense rule. If it's something that you would reasonably believe might upset someone, tag it. Violence, sexual themes, suicidal ideation, etc. are all fairly obvious things to tag for! Sharing anything rated mature or explicit should have a content warning filter up and some tags to help people make informed decisions about whether to view
Example:
Rating: Mature
Summary: Mal and Nate go out past their border looking for food, when Janus attacks them
Tags: Violence, Blood, Sadism, Broken Leg
🟩 General - No sex, violence, or sensitive themes.
🟨 Teen - Sex, violence, or sensitive themes may be mentioned vaguely or briefly but are not a focus.
🟧 Mature - Adult themes such as sex, violence, or sensitive content are present & a focus.
🟥 Explicit - Adult themes such as sex, violence, or sensitive content are described in graphic detail.
🔳 Unrated - May be used only to preserve surprise plot twists in writing/RP, could contain explicit content, with or without tags.
Unsure if your content rates Mature or Explicit? This post* might help you!
This post provides examples of some ratings for mature topics like violence.
* (Be advised: it's a sfw link talking about putting a card in an envelope, but the examples are allegories for sexual content.)
