The Orphan

It was an awful war day

And I was late getting home.

Arriving with my shivering steps,

I controlled my fear.

Just next to the church

I heard an unfamiliar voice.

A voice that couldn't utter.

Though I was afraid,

Those charming eyes caught me up.

A baby girl it was, but none I could see near

She was fragile, unattended and surrounded hard with fear.

Couldn't think of anything, I took her

Twelve year old me finally,

Became her dear.

Mother became sceptical, Father tensed.

But she managed to make space with her innocent eyes.

Soon my days began to glow, happiness followed by,

Her smile is adorable, Is luck by my side?

Days passed, no identity found,

I was happy but got no paper.

Soon people came by to adopt, I was anguished,

"Why can't we keep her? "

Fighting with tears, Mother explained

" For her better future "

One morning I woke up, bright was the sun.

No one came that day, I stood stunned.

War was over, yet peace not done

I thought of a name, but Emily was gone.
