A long time ago, there was a prince named Rama who had a wife named Sita. Not far away, there was a devil king named Ravana, who had 20 arms and 10 heads, and he was feared across the land. He wanted Sita as his wife instead of Rama’s so he kidnapped her and took her away. But, Sita made a trail of jewelry so Rama could find her. Rama followed the trail and found a monkey-person named Hanuman. They and many other creatures went to find Sita. After a long search, Hanuman found her imprisoned on an island. The army of creatures couldn’t reach the island, so they started building a bridge to that island instead. Soon, every animal came to help with the bridge, and when it finished, a battle was fought, resulting in Rama killing Ravana. When the world heard the news, everyone rejoiced and celebrated by lighting up oil lamps to guide them home and welcome them back. Ever since then, people light lamps on that day to celebrate and remember that light triumphs over dark and good triumphs over evil.
