What are silhouettes?
Silhouettes? Huh, what's that, sounds French? Well, let me tell you. Silhouettes are an image of an object, thing, animal, human, or scene in a form of one solid color. Most silhouettes use black, but other colors are used also. The color edges should match how the subject is being traced or outlined. And if you thought the name sounded French you are correct because the art style was named after French finance minister Etienne de Silhouette, although the country who founded this art style is either Egypt or Greece. Silhouettes can remind someone of a shadow, so the next time you look at a silhouette think about a shadow of someone you know or an object you see.
How are Silhouettes Made?
Take a solid-colored piece of paper or cardstock and draw out anything of your choice.
Cut out the outline of what you drew.
Take your cut-out and paste it on another piece of paper.
Ta-dah you are done with your masterpiece, now all you have to do is put it inside a picture frame!
