– Yono yelling at Ren for dying (twice.)
Was found in the woods alone as a four year old. She had been out there for a while actually but had survived by a few animals providing her some help. This gave the little girl a bond with animals at a young age. She was placed in an orphanage, spent two years there before being adopted by a man named Thardok Rodehon. This man kept about six orphans at all times to help run his business. Thardok was a hunter, selling the pelts, bones and excess meat for profit.
He taught all the kids the way of the hunt. How to silently track and trap or kill the beasts.
Although Thardok is teaching them very useful skills and feeds them well he is an awful man.
Verbally and physically abusing the kids when things don't go smoothly or his temper rises ever so slightly. Once the orphans were considered legal adults Thardok would kick them out and send them on their way with nothing more than their clothes and a decent weapon. Ren was particularly good at tracking and hiding but when it came time for the kill she always hesitated, leading her to be the main focus of the adopters wrath. Ren's other adopted brothers and sisters would bully her as well, hoping to get on the good side of Thardok.
Being a loner, Ren would find peace in the woods with the animals while "hunting". Making friends and playing little games with the creatures of the forest. One day at fifteen Ren came upon a dying Elk. It had been wounded by an arrow but must have gotten away. Watching the light leave the poor animal's eyes Ren placed her hand near it's heart and said a prayer. To her surprise one of the rocks in her hand she had just picked up(she was pretty sure it was a crystal) started to glow. Looking at the stone Ren saw a carving with the antlers of an elk. She could feel the Elks spirit still with her even though she knew the body had expired. Ren focused on the spirit of the Elk and she summoned the elk in front of her, as real as it had just been.
Forever becoming her companion, able to desummon and be kept safe in a rock in her pocket while at home. Ren had seen druids do magic in town but never thought she was capable of magic at all or seen anything like she did.
Ren had a new drive and needed to protect animals. So her and her elk spent their days helping other animals avoid and disarm traps or alerting them of hunters approaching. This led to lower income for the adopted father so his beatings became relentless and even more severe. One day Ren couldn't take it any longer, while all the kids were sent out to hunt; she stayed behind and hid. Ren waited for him to pass out from being too drunk, like he usually did, and strangled him to death with her own hands. After stealing all his gold and some traveling supplies, Ren left riding her elk out of the forest to a druid town she knew of, past the merchant town used to sell the pelts and meat where she was well known. Once there Ren asked around if anyone knew of summoning magic or soul stones. Most people said no or ignored her but an older druid women, named Eligwyn, pulled her aside, and started interrogating Ren on why she was asking such questions. After Ren told this woman her story Eligwyn advised Ren to not go shouting this out to just anyone. Soul magic(stones) is only spoken in the old books of a dying religion. Eligwyn invited Ren to her home to stay for a while.
Ren spent most of her days in the woman's large library, reading about stones, crystals, beasts and monsters from across the world. Completely forgetting the mystery of having this new unknown magic. Ren's thirst for adventure could not be contained anymore, she had to collect these new stones and see these beasts for herself. While departing, Eligwyn gave Ren a book about the religion. Hoping it will give her guidance and keep her safe. Ren does not read it though. Only reading the book about beasts she stole from Eligwyn.
