Summary

At the beginning of the campaign, Petan was the wise High Cleric of L'Appilia. He was respected by the community and upheld the position for centuries, serving the royal family.

....

However, on Vym 31 of the 2nd Year of Adventure, the group infiltrated L'Appilia and went to the Cleric Tower to attack Petan. We met him at the top floor and fought him. Drax takes the kill shot by shooting him in the throat. The group takes his head to keep to ask the corpse questions later.

After his death, we learn of his direct involvement with the blight.

Jean polymorphs as Young Petan and Alwyn casts the 'Cone of Truth' spell to get Petan's dead head to answer our questions honestly. Shala casts the 'Speak with Dead' spell. The group invited King Eristan, Princess Aurona, Lord Commander Kiventh, and Kamus to the Magnificent Mansion as witnesses to help exonerate the group's crimes against L'Appilia.

Would the blight have happened when it did, if not for your actions?
- "No."
What is the primary reason you want to be a God?"
- "I didn't want to be a god."
How were you able to use Martek to acomplish your goals?
- "I didn't."
What was your relationship with Martek?
- "Complicated."
King Eristan L'Appilia asks: Did you intentionally take lives?
- "Yes"

The group then uses the orb to use the 'Time Walk' spell to learn more about the magical objects that were in Petan's possession.

Urt uses the spell to learn more about the origins of the Black Scroll and Black Quill.
- - He travels to a mountain top (recognizes area as Kratel prior to the Blight). A hooded figure, face covered, uses a spell. A black ooze spreads throughout the lands as wind particles spread it out.
King Eristan uses the spell to learn about how the scroll was made, not used.
- - He saw Jeanette make the Black Scroll and then someone wiped her memories like a blank slate.

King Eristan still needs more evidence to clear our names but is satisfied for the time being to not arrest us yet.

Vym 52, 207 A.B.

Shala polymorphs as Neighn and casts the 'Cone of Truth' spell to get Petan's dead head to answer our questions honestly. Shala then casts the 'Speak with Dead' spell. As Shala took time out of her busy day to visit us, we gave her the last question to ask.

Did you break your oath as the High Cleric of L'Appilia?
- "Yes."
Were you the hooded figure in Kratel that cast the spell to summon the Blight?
- "Yes."
Were you involved with wiping Jeanette's memory?
- "Yes."
Were you complicit with the Blight encompassing Mirse?
- "Yes."
Shala asks: Did you kill Prince Vayle?
- "Yes."

In a rage, Shala screams at the top of her lung while Yono tells the group what she knows about Prince Vayle. He was a powerful first-born young prince of L'Appilia that died about a hundred years ago after he fell from the cliffs at Dorphian's Bay. Petan told the royal family at the time that he was not able to revive Vayle. Shala forces us to go with her back to L'Appilia to show King Eristan the interrogation we just had with Petan to exonerate the group's crime and determine how to proceed with the news of Vayle. The group meets up with Shala in the royal crypt the next day and Shala revives Prince Vayle.
