PPITH Instructor candidates must already be NRA Certified Pistol Instructors. They are required to attend classroom training and pass BOTH the PPITH and then the PPOTH Student Courses. These courses must be completed in this order for student and instructor courses.
Only candidates who successfully complete PPITH Instructor certification may attend the PPOTH Instructor course.
All aspects of each instructor candidate are evaluated by a NRA Training Counselor during PPITH Instructor Training, including the ability to safely handle firearms with confidence, the ability to diagnose and correct common shooting errors, and utilizing the teaching philosophies expected of NRA Certified Instructors. Range instruction and classroom instruction are both evaluated during this course.
Candidates must successfully instruct in both environments, pass a written exam, pass a gun handling evaluation, and pass a timed marksmanship qualification in order to certify.
