CARBINE - 2.5 IS AN ADVANCED TACTICAL SHOOTING COURSE.
This course requires transitional use of BOTH a rifle with a sling and a sidearm with a holster.
COMPETENCY
Students must know how to operate, shoot, load, unload, and reload their AR-15 MSR and their sidearm, and possess intermediate-level Tactical Carbine and Pistol Shooting skills to attend. Completion of Carbine Level-2.0 or an equivalent standard of training is recommended before attending this course.
PURPOSE
Carbine Rifle: Level-2.5 applies advanced tactical shooting drills to enhance skills developed during the Carbine Level-2 course, and introduces transitional use of the sidearm during threat engagements.
WHAT YOU DO
Students progress through increasingly complex shooting exercises, applying rapid target acquisition and trigger manipulation to accurately engage multiple targets; engage from behind cover using both the firing side and support side shoulders; shoot, reload and clear stoppages using only one hand; transition from rifle to handgun based upon the tactical situation, and determine priority of engaging active threats at distances between 150 and 15 feet.
BLOOD | SWEAT | TEARS
This course requires moving, kneeling, squatting and assuming awkward shooting positions. Students should bring knee pads and gloves. Instruction is conducted entirely outdoors on the range, including inclement weather conditions. Prepare accordingly.
REQUIRED GEAR
An AR-15 MSR with an adjustable sling, an optical sight and MBUS, at least three rifle magazines and 400 rounds of FACTORY rifle ammunition; AND a pistol with at least three pistol magazines, a durable strong side holster and 150 rounds of FACTORY pistol ammunition are required – provided by each student. Students must also carry extra batteries for the optical sights on each gun they bring.
COST
Cost is $250 per person (includes 8-hours of training, student materials, targets and range fees).
IMPORTANT NOTES
Please purchase standard .223/5.56 target ammunition so you do not destroy our steel targets! Reloaded or hand-loaded ammunition is not permitted in this course. You will not shoot if you bring inappropriate ammunition to class.
Please do not bring a rifle or pistol that has not had at least 200 rounds of use. Please also clean and inspect your guns before class.
Pay specific attention to cleaning your rifle chamber and the bolt carrier group. Inspect and replace the gas rings on your bolt before class (as needed). Please also inspect and replace the extractor and/or the extractor spring (as needed).
We recommend mounting backup sights on your rifle. If your optic fails or falls off of your rifle, you will need backup sights to remain in the course. We strongly encourage you to mount backup sights on your rifle.
GUN & GEAR FAILS
If your optic fails or falls off of your rifle and you do not have backup sights, you cannot effectively or safely fire your rifle. If this occurs, you will not be able to continue the course. The gun will be immediately removed from the range, and you will be dismissed from the course without a refund.
The rifle is the primary platform for the course. If your rifle fails for any reason, you will not be able to continue the course. If this occurs, The rifle will be immediately removed from the range, and you will be dismissed from the course without a refund.
The pistol is the secondary platform for the course. If your pistol fails for any reason, you will not be able to complete over 70% of the shooting drills. If this occurs, The pistol will be immediately removed from the range. You will have an option to stay and shoot drills using only your rifle, or you may leave the course. In no case will failure of your firearms result in either a full or partial refund.
The holster is to the pistol as the sling is to the rifle. You must have a holster that provides retention to the pistol when you are moving, including when you are moving around on the ground with your rifle. The holster must conform to the shape of the gun, and it must remain open and accessible to the gun when holstering during transition drills.
If your holster will provide an unsafe condition on the range, you will not use it. See above regarding pistol failures.
Slings are required on rifles. We recommend a 2-point adjustable sling for the course, but you may use any sling you have - as long as it keeps the gun on your body when you are transitioning to your sidearm. If your sling will provide an unsafe condition on the range, you will not use it. See above regarding rifle failures. If your sling fails, the rifle will be immediately removed from the range, and you will be dismissed from the course without a refund.
PREPARE YOUR KIT
I will require you to submit photos of your gear before class, and we will have time to remedy any gear issues - specifically the holster and the sling. All of your "kit" must be functional and operational - in order to maintain a safe condition on the range. We do not compromise on safety. There will be zero discussions about what we determine to be safe or unsafe. Plan ahead. Ask questions about what gear you need - especially if you are buying these items for our training.
NO reloaded or hand-loaded ammunition is permitted.
YOUR RIFLE AND PISTOL SIGHTS AND/OR OPTIC MUST BE ZEROED BEFORE YOU ATTEND CLASS
