For dealing with technical projects and tasks, the team is split into four groups:
CAD Group is responsible for creating the mechanical design for the robot using Computer Aided Design software. The team currently uses the Solidworks software package for this purpose, sharing the design files using the GrabCAD service.
Mechatronics Group is responsible for shepherding the robots’ various mechanical subsystems through the design and build process. Their practical responsibilities include creating prototypes, designing and implementing the robot’s power and control systems: electronics and pneumatics, and final assembly of robot systems.
Model Shop Group is responsible for building the physical structure of the robot and in general the manufacture of any parts the team needs. This requires them to have expert knowledge of use of the team’s various tools and machines
Software Group is responsible for programming the robot to have both autonomous and human-controlled functionality. The team currently programs the robot using Java. They are also working on a simulator so that we can test out robot behavior and strategies before the robot is actually built.
