Every student team member agrees to the following:
- This is a team.
- I will treat other team members with respect.
- I will attend required team meetings and events (see the schedule section).
- I will attend and actively participate in the scheduled meetings and work sessions during the build season and the off season.
- Many adults support our work.
- I will treat mentors, parent supervisors, and faculty advisors with respect.
- I will follow the rules established by these adults
- The tools we use can be dangerous.
- I will exercise caution and follow safety procedures when using tools.
- I will complete the appropriate training before using tools and machines.
- Any member’s actions reflect upon the whole team.
- I will conduct myself in a responsible and mature manner at all public events.
- Critical team communications occur via email.
- I will check my email regularly for robotics related information, and respond expediently when appropriate.
- Less critical discussion also happens on Discord. As an active member of the team, I will engage in Discord conversations that pertain to me.
Parents play an important role in running the team. Parent roles include supervising build sessions, helping mentor in both technical areas and non-technical areas, fundraising, robot transport, taking photos/videos, etc. It’s very rewarding to get to know the students better and to contribute to the team’s success.
The parents of team members have the following expectations:
- Parents have read and support all requirements of students as outlined in the Student Expectations section.
- Parent awareness improves the quality of the robotics team experience and ensures parents know and understand fully the responsibilities and achievements of their children. Parents should attend parent meetings and keep up to date via group communication, such as emails and meeting notes.
- Parents must complete the forms and payments necessary for travel before the deadline.
Thank you for actively participating in the career and educational development of your child and for taking a genuine interest in something that inspires them. Your presence means a lot to your child and it means a lot to us. Parents help tremendously with the logistics, function, and comfort of the team. And like a sports team, parents are often our loudest cheerleaders and biggest supporters. For those with busy schedules and demanding careers, we hope you can attend some or all of our competitions. They are high energy, exciting, and fun; you will see your child and their hard work shine.
