It takes more than $40,000 per year to build multiple robots and compete in 4-5 FIRST competitions. The team has typically relied on families and individuals for about a third of its annual funding. The remainder comes from corporate sponsors, the Sequoia Union High School District ($5000 for FIRST registration), plus student fundraising. Team 766 does not receive any direct support from the school PTA or the Foundation for the Future, which only pays the stipend for the team’s faculty liaison. The $10,000 - $13,000 in family contributions can support competitive event expenses ($6,000), student scholarships for travel to events ($2,000) and the cost of building one competitive robot ($5,000). To reach this goal for the year, the team requests that families consider a minimum $200 “fair share” donation. Note that this is neither a fee nor a required contribution to participate on the team. Whenever possible, we especially appreciate corporate matching from employers of robotics families.
