What is ADSY PEP?

The ADSY Planning and Execution Program (ADSY PEP) supports districts and schools in a robust program planning and continuous improvement process. ADSY PEP draws from lessons from the National Summer Learning Project (NSLP), a 6-year effort funded by The Wallace Foundation to learn whether programs run by districts and their partners can benefit kids, and what it takes to be successful. The study conducted by RAND in partnership with five school districts and partners from Boston (MA), Dallas (TX), Duval County (FL), Pittsburgh (PA), and Rochester (NY)  included a Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) design and is considered the largest, most definitive study of summer learning to-date. RAND found that students with consistent attendance saw educationally meaningful benefits in math, reading, and social and emotional learning. To read more about the outcomes, see Learning from Summer.

Over the course of the year, district/school planning teams will be guided through a variety of supports to help them plan the elements of a high-quality summer learning program in a thoughtful and practical sequence. The learning community provides a forum for districts/schools to draft elements of their plans with guidance and consultation from experts and peers. Importantly, this process is aligned to key findings from research on summer learning programs to ensure that districts are not “reinventing the wheel.” Learning community offerings include:

There are two primary Learning Communities:

ADSY PEP PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

The ADSY Planning and Execution Program (ADSY PEP) is a program that supports LEAs with the planning, program design, and change management required to effectively add instructional days to the school calendar. Participating districts/schools must meet certain requirements.

TEXAS SUMMER LEARNING STUDY

The Texas Summer Learning Study is an independent study by the American Institutes for Research (AIR) in collaboration with the Texas Education Agency and with support from The Wallace Foundation. This four-year implementation study will build from research on summer learning programs to understand the use of evidence-based design principles (also referred to in this study as “EBDP”).

The study is designed to leverage multiple data sources and to elevate stakeholder voices while also minimizing the burden to study participants. AIR is focused on building relationships through frequent and focused touch-points and data collection activities.
