FT2 | Rock 2
Time to use those skills!
Time to use those skills!
By the end of FT2, Intermediate Rock Climbing students will be able to...
...lead the entire climb for basic (5.4-5.6) rock routes
...swap leads on basic rock climbs
...includes rappelling, building anchors, placing pro, and climbing technique
...practice simul climbing - Using trees, anchors and terrain for protection, Communication, Roping up.
Another how not to do video. Some interesting things to point out in this video. Notice the anchor he uses at the top of the first pitch. Would you feel safe using that? Great way to speed up a climb if you forgot to tie your quad anchor or something like that. Also note team tall uses the rope as the anchor on one of the belays! Very fancy technique that can be super strong and quick to set up. Note don't use the rope anchor if you aren't swapping leads. Another technique used is the hip belay! Very handy on easy 5th to 4th class terrain where both climbers are comfortable. Can really speed up the climbing and transitions. Can go great when combined with simulclimbing on easy ground in the alpine. Perhaps used on 4th class terrain between harder pitches in the alpine.
Some more advanced techniques for shortening the rope rather than having a massive kiwi coil getting in your way while simul-climbing or navigating changing between 4th and 5th class terrain.
