We believe in fostering a community of curious, resilient, and critically thinking mathematicians who can navigate complex problems that impact our world.
Engaging students in a productive struggle to identify mistakes and challenges as opportunities to reflect, learn and grow.
We create cultures of learning that foster flexible thinking.
As I reflect on my why, my initial proposal and my call to action I’m reminded of the deeper purpose that drives the work. Kotter's "Heart of Change", reminds me to focus on leading change through the emotional aspect. Simon Sinek, reminds me that "People don't buy what you do; they buy why you do it."
The Why grounds the work in purpose: fostering a community of curious, resilient, and critically thinking mathematicians who can impact the world. It elevates math beyond academics, connecting it to identity, agency, and real-world relevance. The How: Engaging students in productive struggle creates urgency by challenging the notion that mistakes signal failure; instead, struggle becomes essential for growth, demanding immediate shifts in classroom culture and mindset. The What: Creating cultures of learning that foster flexible thinking, directly confronts complacency by rejecting passive learning and insisting on dynamic, reflective environments where both educators and students continually grow.
Together, these statements inspire meaningful change and reframe mathematics as a transformative human endeavor. This requires intentional, daily effort, and I know that waiting to make that shift only holds students back. Altogether, these statements ground and challenge me to stay committed to creating classrooms where every student can thrive and impact our world!
