Adventures of Superman #544
The coveted Baldy Award was a real prize given through the letter columns of Superman titles from October 1990 to November 2001, during the period that was known as
the Superman Triangle Era, which was edited by Mike Carlin.
In the comics' continuity, it was also featured as an in-universe award. The official name for the award is the Zenith Award for Excellence in Journalism, granted by Lex Luthor and humorously nicknamed "The Baldy Award" by the journalists of Metropolis. The first reference to the award appeared in Adventures of Superman #467, published in June 1990, also known as Part 2 of "The Dark Knight Over Metropolis."
In the letter columns, the Baldy made its debut in Action Comics #658 and quickly became the ultimate Superman collectible for any true Man of Steel aficionado. It was highly sought after, especially since it was discontinued in November 2001, with its final appearance in Superman: The Man of Steel #118.
In the TV series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, a similar award called the Kerth Award is prominently featured in the second episode of the second season. Additionally, Action Comics #693 offers an interesting storyline related to the Baldy Award. In Superman #0 (1994), Clark Kent wins the coveted prize.
