StarCon 2019 took place on February 2, 2019, at the Teatro Eva Wilma, in São Paulo, Brazil. Organized by Nova Frota, the convention is primarily dedicated to Star Trek, with a long-standing tradition of celebrating both classic and contemporary science fiction through panels and community-driven discussions. In 2019, while maintaining its Trek-centered identity, StarCon also opened space for related pop-culture topics, offering parallel programming that expanded the event’s scope beyond its core universe.
Within this broader framework, Fabio Marques, editor of Super-Homem.COM and a recognized specialist in Superman and DC Comics, participated in two DC Comics television panels held in the Promenade area. At 13:15, Marques joined Thiago Cardin for a discussion on the DC Arrowverse on television, focusing on series aired on The CW, including Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl. Later, at 15:00, both returned for a panel dedicated to the TV series Teen Titans, examining its darker tone, narrative choices, and its distribution model on Netflix for Brazilian audiences.
Although StarCon remains, at its core, a Star Trek convention, these panels demonstrated how the event accommodates adjacent fandoms without diluting its identity. By placing DC Comics television discussions alongside its Trek programming, StarCon 2019 created a space where different strands of televised science fiction could be examined with the same seriousness and critical attention—particularly regarding continuity, adaptation, and audience reception, showing that thoughtful fandom dialogue can coexist across franchises.
