Metropolis, Illinois is the Home of Superman, the city holds a celebration each summer to celebrate the Man of Steel.
For more than 40 years, the Metropolis Chamber of Commerce, City of Metropolis and the Greater Metropolis Convention & Visitors Bureau are hosting the Metropolis Superman Celebration, a 4-day extravaganza celebrating Superman and welcoming fans from around the world.

Thanks to Superman's 75th anniversary and hype for Snyder's Man of Steel movie, the red-caped superhero was pretty popular on June 2013. Because of this, the tradtional event held each year in Metropolis, Illinois was really packed.

The festival, which kicked off on Thursday June 6th, featuring special guests and events for the whole family. This year's celebrity attendees included none other than Lois Lane herself, Margot Kidder, Tracy Scoggins from Lois & Clark and Smallville's Michael Rosenbaum. Man of Steel actor and Smallville Alessandro Juliani also was on the bill, along with a couple stars from the Adventures of Superman TV series, which aired in the '50s.

Several Superman comics artists were also present, such as Brett Breeding, Ron Frenz, Art Baltazar, Chris Strouse and others.

Final day also included a failed attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the Largest Gathering of People Dressed as Superman.

The Superman Celebration held in June 2018 was a special opportunity to celebrate the 80 years of the publication of Action Comics #1 and the 40 years of the release of Superman: The Movie. The actors Brandon Routh, Shaun Sipos, Blake Ritson, Jack O'Halloran, Jeff East, Aaron Smolinski and John Newton were present along with producer Ilya Salkind to pay homage to the Man of Steel on this particular anniversary.
