Superman: The Man of Steel was a monthly comic book series published by DC Comics starting in 1991, as part of the Triangle Era of the Superman titles during the 1990s. Edited primarily by editor Mike Carlin, it first featured storys by writer Louise Simonson, artist Jon Bogdanove and inker Dennis Janke, the series played a crucial role in significant storylines of the era, including The Death of Superman and its aftermath. With main focus on Superman's supporting cast, social concepts and human relationships between those characters, it also introducted new characters like John Henry Irons' Steel. The title expanded Superman’s universe and ran for 136 issues until 2003.
The letter column, titled "Tempered Steel," featured responses from various assistant editors throughout its publication.
