Most learners develop the ability to recognize language, that is read and listen, before they develop the ability to produce, speak and write. There’s nothing to feel bad about that. Here are some things you can try when you want to learn to speak, even with native Finns speaking puhekieli.

Can you repeat that please? Voitko toistaa, kiitos!

Can you speak more slowly, please? Voitko puhua hitaammin, kiitos!
If you want to speak a language, you actually have to speak it. No brainer, right. This is a phrase that you will most certainly need and often: “Pliis, puhu mulle suomea.”
Reading aloud is something that’s surprisingly controversial in language learning circles, but I think it trains the muscles of your mouth and diaphragm to produce unfamiliar words and sounds. Public speakers often use a teleprompter in delivering a speech, but they attempt to emulate natural speech while reading it. You could do it as well here.
